Sami is the main and oldest port of Kefalonia and has a rich naval tradition. Boats of all types and sizes have docked in its port and the desires, aspirations and fears of sailors have been guarded over the centuries by the blue waters of its bay. The Nautical Museum of Sami is located right at the entrance to the village and tells 3,500 years of nautical history, paying homage to the maritime identity that Sami has had since ancient times.
The museum houses beautiful reproductions of traditional Greek vessels. Walking in the corridors of the exhibition you will fight on warships, dive into the blue waters of the Mediterranean to collect sponges and set your nets sailing on splendid fishing boats. The models are 1.20 to 4.00 meters long, are built with different types of wood and treated in detail and built according to all the technical specifications to be even navigable! There is also a reproduction of the Titanic that the creator wanted to dedicate to the victims of that tragic shipwreck. All the models are the work of Mr. Sotiris Marketos, founder of the collection, who is often found in the museum to personally welcome visitors and accompany them on a journey that is not only by sea, but also through time, transferring to them all his passion for sea and the love for his creations.
