According to tradition, baking this cake will help you find something you have lost, whether it's a thing, a person, or maybe your right path in life. Even if you don’t believe in the magical power of this delicious cake or you are afraid to risk, even by chance, to get back something you did everything to get rid of, Fanouropita is still worth making!
Even if it is an easy-to-make nut and orange cake, be careful to the mysticism which underlies its preparation! All the ingredients must add up to an odd number (e.g. 7, 9, 11). It is conventional for the cake to be made with only seven or nine ingredients, symbolizing the sacred mysteries of The Greek Orthodox Church or the seven days of creation. After being blessed in the Church, the cake must be cut into forty pieces symbolising the forty days of the soul in purgatory and shared among neighbours, friends and family. It should be eaten by at least seven people.
Hopefully, this cake will help you get what you are looking for... And if it doesn’t, well, at least you got a yummy outcome of the experience!
